Jeremy Welland, 37, sadly left us on March 7 after a sudden heart attack at home.
A native Canadian, Jeremy grew up in Ontario with his parents, Doug and Debbie
Welland, and his brothers, Tim and Andrew. He was an excellent student and, like any good
Canadian boy, a hockey player. Jeremy studied neurology at Brown University and chose to
stay in the United States and pursue his law degree at University of Arizona. A lifelong learner,
Jeremy had recently returned to school to pursue his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University after a ten year career as a lawyer. His love of learning extended beyond formal education as he taught
himself Chinese and Spanish. During Covid, Jeremy taught himself to play chess and became a
competitive chess player.
Jeremy met his wife, Kehler, in Las Vegas in 2011. They adopted their dog, Flynn, in
2012. They were married in Park City, UT in 2015 and welcomed their children, Madeleine, in
2017 and Owen, in 2022. Jeremy and Kehler enjoyed traveling together, visiting Hawaii, New
Zealand, and Greece. They had future plans to visit Ireland and Japan.
Jeremy was a Toronto Maple Leafs fan and was looking forward to taking his daughter to
her first hockey game. He loved sports in general and it wasn’t unusual to find him watching
football on the tv, watching cricket on his computer, and completing the New York Times
crossword at the same time.
Jeremy loved his children. Keeping them happy and safe was his highest priority. He
loved to plan special outings and activities that he thought they would enjoy, trying to cultivate
their talents and interests.
Jeremy is survived by his wife, Kehler Welland and their children, Madeleine and Owen,
his parents, Doug and Debbie Welland, his brothers and their spouses, Tim (Krystal) Welland
and Andrew (Liz) Welland and his nephew and nieces - Evan, Zoe, Sophie, and Ellie. He is
preceded by his niece, Harper.
