On October 23,2009, Ann Louise Stein, 89, longtime resident of Essex, passed away.She was the beloved wife of the late Edwin R. Stein, devoted mother of Lynn E. Stein of Essex, Mary K. Thommen (Stein) and her husband Scott of Airville,PA, and the late William P. Hardesty II and Thomas Hardesty. A devoted companion, friend and godfather to both daughters, John T. Amend (Jay) passed away in July 2009. She is the dear sister of June (Sessamen) Kain and her husband Robert of Baltimore and the late Willman and Edward Sessamen of Baltimore, Francis Lupton of Wyoming and Julia Kolbe of Randallstown. Dear grandmother of Robert, Melissa and David of PA., great grandmother of Alexis, 6 1/2, and Jessica, 3 1/2, and great grandmother of soon to be born, Gavin. Aunt of Pam, Glen and Robbie. Ann loved to travel with her family all over the United States, her favorite time was spent in Florida during the cold winter months. She loved Bingo, get togethers and Sunday drives in the country. She was very involved with children, being a Brownie and Girl Scout leader and volunteering many many hours at Franklin Square Hospital on the Pediatric Unit. In Anns lifetime, she fostered well over 300 children for the Church Mission of Health, receiving special recognition from Marty Bass at WJZ-TV 13 and numerous other awards. She was known as Annie the Rivoter at Westinghouse, where she worked during war time and had always laughed about that. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church, 518 Franklin Avenue in Essex,MD on Saturday October 31,2009. In the spring, the family will be planting a memory garden for their mother, father and godfather.
