IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Francine T.
Chivot
June 21, 1926 – July 3, 2025
Francine T. Chivot (Little Sister Francine) June 21, 1926 to July 3, 2025
Little sister Francine passed away peacefully at St. Elisabeth's nursing home, Baltimore, MD on the evening of July 3, 2025, just 12 days after celebrating her 99th birthday. She is survived by her sister, Claudine, who resides in France.
Francine was born June 21, 1926 in Abbeville, France. During World War II, her village was severely damaged and her family was evacuated. After the War, Francine finished her studies and was an English teacher for several years. She joined the Little Sisters of Jesus in Aix a Provence in 1957, made her postulancy and novitiate in Vancouver and Montreal, Canada and first vows in Ottawa, Canada in 1959. Not long after, she was sent to Chicago, Illinois, USA where she lived for nearly 50 years, except for a few years away-- in Rome for theology studies and final vows, in Cottonwood, Arizona and a short time travelling with the Little sisters working with the Circus. Francine lived in the different communities of the Little Sisters on the West side of Chicago where she had several jobs, including Food Service at Operation Brotherhood and at Mt. Sinai Hospital. Sr. Francine was committed to the vibrant parish of St. Agatha's and the African American community was very dear to her and she to them! She often said "I received much more than I gave!"
Francine moved to St. Joachim Senior Housing in Baltimore, MD in December 2013, one of the first Little sisters in the USA region to move to a senior building. She was grateful for her years there where she continued to be active. For the past year she was at St. Elisabeth's Nursing Home where, despite her frail health, was very attentive to anyone who came to visit her. Sr. Francine will be remembered for her deep faith, simplicity, and generous spirit and she will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated July 14 at St. Elizabeth Nursing Home, Baltimore, MD. Burial is at St Patrick's Cemetery, Gallitzin, PA.
