Frederick Boyd Schmid, 63, died on the morning of October 12, 2020, at his home in Baltimore after a seven-year battle with mesothelioma. His wife, Jeanine Buford, his son, Will Schmid, and a dear friend were by his side.

Rick, or Fred to many, collected friends, colleagues, and golfing partners throughout his life in Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Maryland. He was born in Lancaster, PA, the son of William Frederick Schmid and Amanda Wilette Maley Schmid. He remained close to childhood friends in Lancaster, fellow students at Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA, and colleagues at Irex Corp. He treasured the time he spent on the course with his Hershey, PA, golfing group and the camaraderie he felt there.

His easy smile, wit, intellect, creativity, incredible self-discipline, and love will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, his son, his sister, Joann Leary of Arkansas, and his niece, Shannon Leary of Lebanon, PA. Donations in his memory can be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Lancaster or Susquehanna Service Dogs, as that is what he would have wanted. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
