On July 28,2026, at the age of 78, John J. Hennigan, Sr., beloved son of Elmer Hennigan Sr. and Anna M. (Zellinger) Hennigan, passed away surrounded by his family and his loving companion Cooper. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Matthew) Hennigan; his sons, John J. Hennigan Jr. and Patrick M. Hennigan. He is preceded in death by his sisters Joanne (Hedy) Hennigan and Joan Dodge, his brother Elmer (Skeets) Hennigan Jr. and his parents. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family. John was one of a kind; a fierce competitor, coach and teacher. He loved soccer, billiards, golf and was an avid Liverpool fan. John was inducted to the Patterson High School Soccer Hall of Fame in 1997 and most recently into the Maryland Soccer Hall of Fame for his lifelong dedication to the game. John also recently celebrated completing 9 years of sobriety with the AA program, an accomplishment of which he was very proud.
Family and friends may gather at LILLY & ZEILER INC. FUNERAL HOME, 700 S. Conkling St./21224 on Thursday, August 6,2026 from 4-8 p.m. where a Catholic Prayer Service will be held on Friday, August 7,2026 at 10 a.m. Interment to follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery, 7225 Eastern Avenue,Baltimore,MD 21224.
