Obituary

Lewis Adam Hess, Jr. passed away on January 14,2021. He is survived by his sister, Maryellen (Hess) Ewing and her husband Raymond Ewing,Sr., his goddaughter, Jennifer Ewing and her partner, Brent Fox, and his nephew, Raymond Ewing, Jr. and his wife Tess. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents Matilda (Brown) Hess and Lewis Hess, Sr. and his beloved wife A. Christine (Sadowski) Hess.

Lewis was raised in Baltimore City, behind the bar of his parents restaurant "Hess's" on S. Decker Avenue and on the soccer field. He was a graduate of St. Elizabeth's of Hungary School in 1961 and a member of the Loyola Blakefield Class of 1965. Lew received his bachelor's degree in Education with a minor in Geography from the University of Maryland (College Park) in 1971. A deft player, coach and referee on the soccer field, Lew's impact was felt for decades in the East Baltimore soccer community. Lew reinvented himself in the 1980's with a career with Amtrak after the closing of Hess' restaurant where he worked the first half of his life and spent many good years on the rails. One cannot think about Lew without knowing of his love for animals. He was always surrounded by dogs and cats, sharing so much joy with his pets. A Memorial Celbration will be held at a later date.
