IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary A.
(Kaczaniuk) Kashanchi
May 21, 1960 – September 15, 2025
Mary A. (Kaczaniuk) Kashanchi:
We are heartbroken and saddened to announce the passing of Mary A. (Kaczaniuk) Kashanchi on September 15, 2025, in Potomac, Maryland. She was 65 years young and passed away peacefully.
Mary was born on May 21, 1960, in Baltimore, Maryland, and was the cherished daughter of the late Jurij and Anna Kaczaniuk. She was highly accomplished in her career of dedication to the causes of human health and well-being at the National Institute of Health (NIH) for over 40 years. She balanced work, family and career responsibilities and was a shining example of a well-rounded person.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend, whose quick wit and warm sense of humor brought joy to all who knew her. Her smile always lit up the room and she touch many hearts in her life. Although at times unknowingly, she followed the path of Mother Teresa in many ways; she believed and practiced to forgive people, was honest, found happiness in simplest things in life, always paid forward, and gave her best to the world around her. These qualities of consistently embodying such virtues made her a rare human being.
Mary is survived by her loving husband, Fatah Kashanchi, and her beloved son, Alexander Kashanchi. Also, by her sister Olha Tiberg and husband Steven, her brother John Kaczaniuk and his wife Teresa, and her sister-in-law Maria Kaczaniuk. She will be lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews: Daria Hauff (Ross), Yarema Kaczaniuk (Jamie), Melanya Kozak (Kyle), Tessa Zilberbaum (Adam), Larissa Kaczaniuk, and Alexander Kaczaniuk – as well as her many great-nieces and great-nephews, who brought her much joy. She is also lovingly remembered by her close circle of 'sister friends', Loli Pitsoulakis (Nick) and Katie Finn (Rodney), a bond she cherished deeply through the years.
Mary was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Michael Kaczaniuk.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Thursday, September 18, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Lilly and Zeiler Funeral Home, 1901 Eastern Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21231.
