Michael Blankenheim passed away peacefully on 4/12/2021, at the age of sixty-five in the presence of his brother and sister-in-law, succumbing to injuries sustained from a combination of stroke and heart attack.
Mike led a long, distinguished career as a journalist, first as editor of the Bowie High newspaper in 73. Then gaining notoriety for his reporting on the UMCP policy of allowing athletes to take snoopy, easy to pass classes, he rose to being an editor at the Diamondback.
Reporting on such subjects as Mothers Against Drunk Driving, aids, and teen heroin addiction, at the Bowie Blade, the Montgomery Sentinel and the Vienna Times, he was the recipient of many awards. As a longtime reporter, editor at the Carroll County Times, he developed a renowned relationship with Governor Schaefer, and through reporting he helped an elderly lady rise from poverty to become the famous Carroll County Muffin Lady.
A celebration of the life and times of Michael Blankenheim, Journalman, will be held at brother Ray Blankenheim's and Janice Kaufmann's place, Saturday, May 1st at 1 pm to whenever, 233 South Collington Ave, Baltimore MD 21231.
