Bernard Helinski Obituary

Bernard Edmund Helinski, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

Bernard was born in Baltimore, Maryland on December 7, 1934 to Michael and Veronica Helinski. He grew up in Baltimore (at the “foot of Broadway”) where he was known as “Bunny” to his friends. He attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School and the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He was a proud graduate of Loyola College Maryland.

Bernard met the love of his life, Maureen Celeste McCarthy from New Orleans. They were married for 60 years and had four children and ten grandchildren. Bernard worked as a Buildings Manager for the Federal Government. He enjoyed football, boats, cars, and spent hours on woodworking and carpentry projects.

Bernard is survived by his devoted wife Maureen and his children: Celeste Elaine Alcorta (Javier), Laura Helinski Eskenazi (Jonathan), David Edmund Helinski (Elena) and Jennifer Helinski Glyphis (George). He was a loving Grandfather to Christian Alcorta, Caroline Alcorta, Justin Alcorta, Ian Eskenazi, Alec Eskenazi, Owen Eskenazi, Polina Helinski, Vivian Helinski, Gabriella Glyphis, and Benedict Bernard Glyphis.  Bernard is also survived by his loving sister, Patricia Slaski.

Family and friends may gather at LILLY & ZEILER FUNERAL HOME, 1901 Eastern Avenue on Thursday, February 26 from 3 pm - 7 pm. A mass will take place on Friday, February 27 at 12:00 pm at St. Casimir Church in Canton, Maryland. Interment to follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery.
